PARABLE OF THE PENNY

Bible Verse: "To you, Lord, I offer my prayer, in you, my God, I trust."
                                                                    Psalm 25: 1 & 2a (ABS)

Tuesday morning was turning out to be busier than I had anticipated with extra patience needed at work for the endless telephone calls and requests that come after a long holiday weekend.  Planning and preparing for out-of-state guests was absorbing even more of my time.  Friends were calling and asking for prayer for their loved ones.  Everyone seemed to be demanding the precious little time I had to myself.

These concerns continued to spill over to bedtime, and my sleep was fitfully interrupted with anxious feelings.  As the sunlight awakened me Wednesday morning, I prayed for guidance, and God's intervention in all I had to do, including healing for those who were sick and hurting.

I stepped down the steep curb in front of my building on the way to work and spotted a shiny new penny.,  In the past, God had spoken to me in simple everyday ways.  He was about to teach me how to cope with my stress.  I picked up the coin, turned it over, and read the clearly engraved words, "In God We Trust".  I thanked Him for answering my anxious prayers so quickly.  No wonder I was feeling so stressed, I was trusting in myself, and not Jesus!

I placed the penny in my suit jacket.  Throughout the day, I touched my penny.  It had reminded me that I had to trust God at all times.

Prayer:  Father, we thank you for answering our prayers with simple lessons that we can share with others.

Thought: Often, it is not the value of the money that i important, but the message.
